Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) is a series of products made of vinyl acetate (vac), which is synthesized into polyvinyl acetate (PVAC) through free radical polymerization, and then produced by alcohol hydrolysis.
PVA is a stable, non-toxic water-soluble polymer that appears as white or pale yellow granules or powders. Water serves as its ideal solvent. This material exhibits excellent film-forming properties, with films demonstrating superior adhesion, solvent resistance, abrasion resistance, tensile strength, and gas barrier performance. Partially alcohol-decomposed PVA contains both hydrophilic and hydrophobic functional groups, which endow it with surfactant properties. These characteristics make it an effective dispersant in polymer emulsification and suspension polymerization processes. These unique attributes have enabled PVA to find extensive applications across various industries.
